Rockcastle Regional is offering another session of the Freedom From Smoking® program, a nationally recognized tobacco cessation course developed by the American Lung Association. The next session begins Tuesday, August 20, and will meet weekly for seven weeks in the hospital’s small conference room. This supportive, evidence-based class is designed to help participants quit smoking for good – and stay smoke-free for life.
Freedom From Smoking® has helped hundreds of thousands of people across the country overcome nicotine addiction. In fact, participants in the program are up to six times more likely to be smoke-free one year later than those who attempt to quit on their own. Research shows that nearly 60 percent of Freedom From Smoking® participants quit by the end of the program, with approximately 30 percent remaining smoke-free after one full year. The combination of expert guidance, peer support, and proven strategies is key to its success.
The course is led by trained facilitator Kayla Abney, who brings both compassion and accountability to each session. “Quitting smoking is one of the hardest things a person can do – but also one of the most rewarding,” Abney said. “This program meets people where they are and gives them real tools to take control of their health and future.”
Participants learn how to manage cravings, identify triggers, develop personalized quit plans, and explore medications and nicotine replacement options. The program also focuses on long-term relapse prevention and building healthier habits.
The next Freedom From Smoking® class is open to adults who are ready to take the first step toward quitting. To sign up for the class, please contact Kayla Abney at (606) 256-7383 or k.abney@rhrcc.org.
